Miami's a little different from other ports — parking rates depend on your terminal — so I'll walk you through exactly what to expect.

Question one
How Much Is Parking?
Here's the key thing about Miami: the price depends on which terminal (and garage) your ship uses. Most terminals share one common rate, while a few cruise-line-specific garages are priced separately. Let me break it down.
Most Terminals (Garages C, D, F, G & Lot E)
- Overnight / cruise rate$25 / day
- Short term (no overnight)$10 / day
- Oversized (Lot E)$25 / space
This is the rate most cruisers pay. For a week-long cruise, budget around $175–$200.
Cruise-Line-Specific Garages
- Garage AA (overnight)$35 / day

Garages A and B are run by the cruise lines and booked through their own sites. Royal Caribbean's Garage A is reserved at royalmiamiparking.com; Norwegian's Garage B via ParkWhiz.
Good to Know: Payment & Hours
Port-run garages take cash and major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover) — but not debit cards. Garages are staffed from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. on cruise days, and a free shuttle runs on cruise days too. Rates here are the port's published rates and can change, so I'll always confirm your specific terminal's cost when I book you.
Want to Spend Less on Parking?
Miami is one of the ports where off-site parking saves the most — lots a few minutes away run well under the port's rate and include a shuttle. Even better, if you're staying the night before, many hotels offer a "park & cruise" package bundling your room with a week of parking. That's often the best overall value. How Do I Park?
The most important thing: know your terminal letter before you drive in. Your cruise line assigns it, and it's on your boarding documents. In Miami, each terminal has its own dedicated garage right beside it — so once you know your terminal, you know where to park.
Your Terminal = Your Garage
PortMiami sits on Dodge Island, with terminals on the north and south sides. Each has its own garage or lot, steps from the ship.
Northside Terminals

Heads up on clearance: most garages have a low clearance on upper floors (around 6'8"–7'). If you're in something tall, Surface Lot E is the oversized-vehicle option.
The Drive-In, Step by Step

Take the PortMiami Tunnel. The port has its own dedicated, toll-free tunnel connecting directly to the highways — it keeps cruise traffic off the downtown streets and drops you right at the island. Just follow signs for PortMiami.

Follow signs to your terminal letter. Once on Dodge Island, signage guides you to your specific terminal and its garage. This is why knowing your terminal ahead of time matters.

Drop your bags first. Pull up at your terminal's curbside, hand your luggage to a porter (a few dollars per bag is customary), then continue to the garage. You'll walk in unencumbered.

Park in your terminal's garage. It's right beside the terminal — no shuttle needed for port garages. Note your level and space, and keep your ticket safe.

Walk to check-in. A short walk and you're at your terminal, ready to board. On cruise days a free port shuttle is also available if you need it.
🚛 Driving Something Big?
Oversized vans, RVs, and vehicles with trailers park at Surface Lot E (an open lot with no height limit) at $25 per space per day — two spaces if needed, $50. For help parking an oversized vehicle, call the port at 305-960-5463.
♿️ Accessible & Veterans Parking
Every garage has designated disabled-permit spaces. Certain vehicles with adaptive equipment, and those with a Florida Disabled Veteran plate (with the veteran present), park free — show your ticket and documents to the attendant on exit.

Where Should I Stay?
My honest, number-one piece of advice for any cruise: arrive the night before you sail. Here's why it matters, and how I can make it effortless.
Why Arrive a Day Early?
Flying in the same day your ship sails is the single most common way people add stress — and risk — to a cruise. One delayed flight and you can miss the boat entirely (ships don't wait). Arriving the night before takes all of that pressure off:
😴 A relaxed start
You wake up rested and near the port instead of racing across the country on sail day.
🛩️ A weather cushion
A delayed or canceled flight the day before is an inconvenience — not a missed cruise.
🏖️ A head start on vacation
Miami's beaches, Cuban food, and nightlife are half the fun — make the pre-cruise night count.
Where to Base Yourself
Miami is big, so location matters. Three areas make the most sense for a pre-cruise night, all a short drive to the port:
- 🏙️Downtown / Brickell — Closest to the port (often 10 minutes via the tunnel), with high-rise hotels, dining, and skyline views. The most convenient choice.
- 🏖️Miami Beach / South Beach — Turn the night before into a getaway: ocean, Art Deco, and great restaurants, about 15–20 minutes from the port.
- ✈️By the airport (MIA) — Practical and often best-value if you're flying in, with many park-and-cruise packages and free airport shuttles.

Miami Marriott Biscayne Bay
An upscale waterfront hotel with lovely bay views and a marina setting, a short drive from the port via downtown. A polished choice if you want skyline-and-water scenery and a bit of luxury before you board.

Hampton Inn & Suites Miami Downtown/Brickell · Holiday Inn Port of Miami-Downtown
Two dependable downtown options right by the port. The Holiday Inn sits across from Bayside Marketplace, about as close to the terminals as you can stay. The Hampton adds a rooftop pool and is near the free Metromover. Both put you in walking distance of dining and steps from the tunnel to the port.
Kelsey's tip: Staying downtown means a 10-minute hop to your terminal on sail morning — hard to beat for convenience.
Hotel Breakwater South Beach
A classic Art Deco spot on Ocean Drive for cruisers who want a taste of South Beach — nightlife, the sand, and the scene — the night before sailing. A bit farther from the port, but worth it if you want the quintessential Miami evening first.

Why does parking cost different amounts?
Because Miami has terminals run directly by the port and a few run by individual cruise lines. Most port garages share one overnight rate (around $25/day), while Royal Caribbean's and Norwegian's dedicated garages are priced and booked separately (around $35/day). Knowing your terminal tells you which applies — and I'll always confirm it for you.
Do I need to reserve parking?
For most port-run garages, no — you park and pay on the day. The exceptions are the cruise-line garages (Royal Caribbean's Garage A and Norwegian's Garage B), which are reserved through their own booking sites. If you're sailing one of those lines, book ahead.
Can I pay with a debit card?
Not at the port garages — they take cash and major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, Amex, Discover) but not debit cards. Bring a credit card or cash to be safe.
How do I get to the port from the airport?
Miami International (MIA) is about 8 miles from PortMiami — roughly 15–25 minutes depending on traffic. Many cruise lines offer a shuttle transfer, or a rideshare/taxi is easy. If you'd like, I can arrange your transfer as part of your booking.
Is off-site parking worth it in Miami?
Often, yes — Miami is one of the ports where off-site lots save the most versus the port's rate, and they include a shuttle. And if you're staying overnight anyway, a hotel park-and-cruise package can be the best deal of all. I'm happy to compare the options with you.
