How Much Is Parking?
PortMiami runs official parking in a garage or lot tied to each terminal — so you walk from your car toward the ship with no shuttle. The catch is that the rate depends on your cruise line's terminal, so here's how it breaks down.
Official Port Parking, By Terminal

Carnival, Celebrity, and Virgin use the common garages. Royal Caribbean's Garage A is run by a separate operator and takes advance online reservations — rates change, so confirm before you go.
What A Full Cruise Costs

Remember to count both your sail-away day and your return day — a 7-night cruise means 8 days of parking. Estimates use the $25/day common-garage rate; MSC and NCL terminals run higher.
The #1 Thing That Trips People Up: No Debit Cards
PortMiami's exit booths take major credit cards and cash only — not debit cards, at any garage. This catches a family every week, standing at the exit after a week at sea. Bring a credit card or cash for the way out. You pay on exit; the common garages don't take reservations (first-come, first-served), while the Royal Caribbean and Norwegian garages do let you reserve online in advance.
Want to Spend Less on Parking?
Two easy ways to save. There are off-site lots a few miles away that start well under the port rate (often around $8–$12/day) and include a shuttle — a good option for longer cruises. Or, if you're staying the night before anyway, some hotels offer a "park & cruise" package that bundles your room with parking for the week. How Do I Park?
The single most important thing: know your terminal before you drive in. The terminals sit in a row along Dodge Island, and your cruise line decides which garage you use — not you. Once you know your terminal, everything else falls into place.
Which Garage Is Mine?
At PortMiami your garage is tied to your cruise line's terminal. Match your line below, and each garage sits right beside its terminal — no shuttle needed. A complimentary shuttle also runs on cruise days if you need it.

The Drive-In, Step by Step

Head to the port. PortMiami is at 1015 North America Way, Miami, FL 33132, on Dodge Island. Take the PortMiami Tunnel from I-395 (toll-free) or the MacArthur Causeway from South Beach — the tunnel skips downtown traffic entirely.

Go to your terminal's garage. Follow signs to your cruise line's terminal letter — the garage is right there beside the ship.

Drop your bags first (optional but smart). Pull up curbside at your terminal, hand your luggage to a porter (a few dollars per bag is customary), then go park — no hauling suitcases through the garage.

Park and keep your ticket. Your daily rate starts when you enter. Hold onto the ticket — you'll need it (and a credit card or cash) to pay on the way out.

Walk to your terminal and check in. You're steps from the ship — that's the whole appeal of parking at the port.
✈️ Coming From MIA?
Miami International is only about 8–9 miles from the port — roughly 15–20 minutes via the PortMiami Tunnel, without driving through downtown. Rideshare is often the cheapest door-to-door option; taxis now run on the meter.
⏰ When to Arrive
Your cruise line assigns a Port Arrival Time — arrive within it. Traffic peaks between 9 and 11 a.m., and in peak season (Nov–Apr) the common garages can fill by mid-morning, so don't cut it too fine.

Where Should I Stay?
My honest, number-one piece of advice for any cruise: arrive the night before you sail. Here's why it matters, and how I can make it effortless.
Why Arrive a Day Early?
Flying in the same day your ship sails is the single most common way people add stress — and risk — to a cruise. One delayed flight and you can miss the boat entirely (ships don't wait). Arriving the night before takes all of that pressure off:

You wake up rested and near the port instead of racing across the country on sail day.
🛩️ A weather cushion
A delayed or canceled flight the day before is an inconvenience — not a missed cruise.
🏖️ A head start on vacation
Miami's beaches, Cuban food, and nightlife are worth a night — make it part of the fun.
Where to Base Yourself
Three great areas, each a short drive to the terminals:
- 🏙️Downtown & Brickell — Closest to the port (a few minutes over the bridge), walkable to dining, and packed with hotels at every price point.
- 🏖️Miami Beach / South Beach — Turn the night before into a mini getaway with an ocean-view room and a walk on the sand before you sail.
- ✈️By the airport (MIA) — Great value if you're flying in, with many hotels offering shuttles and park-and-cruise packages.

How far is the airport from the port?
Miami International (MIA) is only about 8–9 miles — roughly 15–20 minutes via the PortMiami Tunnel, which routes you around downtown. Fort Lauderdale (FLL) is farther, about 30 miles.
Do I need to reserve a parking spot?
It depends on your terminal. The common garages (Carnival, Celebrity, Virgin, etc.) are first-come, first-served with no reservations. The Royal Caribbean and Norwegian garages do take advance online reservations, which is worth doing in peak season.
Which garage do I use?
